Casa da Lapa is part of the landscape and history of Sintra, located halfway up the mountainside, where centuries-old trees dominate the unique orography, and is protected by huge granite stones – called "lapas". It has characteristics of a "Casa Portuguesa" in the style of Raul Lino, consisting of three floors with NE/SW orientation.
On the ground floor, two bedrooms, one with a fireplace, and a storage area. On the 1st floor, the living room (with fireplace) and dining room, with tiles from the 1920s, the kitchen with Pombaline tiles and centenary furniture and a bedroom. At the same level, the bathroom, located outside the main body of the house, has Viúva Lamego tiles.
Still on the 1st floor, we find a pantry and access to the garden. This garden has four levels, climbing the Serra de Sintra and allowing a view of the coastline and the convent of Mafra. The benches in the garden, "conversadeiras" in stone, create unique and bucolic places, in the romantic Sintra style. The 2nd floor has an area of about one hundred square meters, allowing for the creation of two more bedrooms.
The exterior of Casa da Lapa is punctuated with details and fine tiles, with typically Portuguese poems. Of note are the century-old doors and jambs, in lacquered shell, with flags adorned with exclusive and dated tile panels.
Casa da Lapa, belonged to the Vice Governor of India and, in the 1940s, was the scene of grandiose parties. It was later sold to the Andersen family.
It should be noted that the property is located in a classified area, in the Sintra/Cascais Natural Park and is exempt from paying IMI and IMT. There is a preliminary project to expand the house.
